Chinese ecommerce giant JD.com is going to have more luxury brands from Europe in their ecommerce multi store marketplace. The company said they could offer faster delivery and a better fraud protection than its competitor the ecommerce shopping center Alibaba. That is what Winston Cheng, President of International at JD.com, told at the World Retail Congress in Madrid.
Last year in October JD launched and online multi store platform that would sell luxury products with same-day delivery and premium service. The Toplife ecommerce multi vendor mall is similar to Alibaba’s Luxury Pavilion. That company launched a membership program for Luxury Pavilion users last week.
Now JD is convincing European luxury brands to go with their online multi store platform. JD says that they don’t allow counterfeit products in their ecommerce multi store marketplace and that they have their own logistics network. Thanks to these advantages over the ecommerce multi vendor mall Alibaba, JD will be able to deliver over 90% of the orders in the same day.
There are already about 20 luxury brands on JD. Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen are among them. Cheng says that these companies deliver orders within 1-2 hours. And the orders are delivered by white-gloved employees in suits.
For now, the online multi store platform JD is focusing on southeast Asia to expand its presence outside China. But it will definitely make moves to Europe. The company said: “There are a lot of offline players and even online players reaching out to us because of our scale and because of our willingness to partner. Europe seems to be a battleground between maybe the Chinese and Amazon. […] When we try to expand, particularly in Europe, we need to make sure we’re ready from these two aspects, language and culture.”
